The Association of Former Presidential Candidates of Nigeria (AFPCN) is a distinguished non-partisan organization that brings together individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to Nigeria's democratic process by contesting for the nation's highest office. Led by the visionary Dr. Onwubuya Abraham Breakforth as National Chairman, AFPCN harnesses the collective wisdom, experience, and political insight of former presidential candidates from diverse political backgrounds to strengthen democratic institutions, promote peaceful elections, and foster good governance across Nigeria. The organization serves as a unique platform where political rivalry transforms into collaborative national service, with members united by their shared passion for Nigeria's democratic advancement and sustainable development.
AFPCN's multifaceted programs address critical national challenges through strategic initiatives including election monitoring and peacekeeping, youth leadership development, women's political empowerment, and national unity advocacy. The organization has successfully mediated post-election conflicts, trained thousands of young Nigerians in democratic leadership, and deployed observers to monitor elections across all 36 states, significantly reducing electoral violence through dialogue and mediation. Through partnerships with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), international democracy organizations, and civil society groups, AFPCN has established itself as a credible voice for accountability, transparency, and ethical political participation, contributing measurably to Nigeria's democratic maturation.
Operating with unwavering commitment to integrity and transparency, AFPCN maintains its credibility through publicly accessible financial reports, non-partisan advocacy, and consistent alignment between stated values and organizational actions. The association's work extends beyond election cycles to address fundamental issues of national unity, bridging ethnic and religious divides through interfaith dialogue, inter-regional programs, and youth integration initiatives. With a vision of "a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria built on democratic principles," AFPCN continues to shape Nigeria's political landscape by proving that former political rivals can collaborate effectively for national interest, setting a powerful example of democratic excellence and patriotic service for current and future generations of Nigerian leaders.
